FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about BackUP

Whether you're a studio looking for coverage or an educator looking for flexible teaching opportunities, we're here to make the process simple.

For Studios

How does BackUP work?

Submit a coverage request with the date, time, location, classes, and teaching styles you need covered. BackUP matches your request with experienced, vetted dance educators whose availability and experience fit your needs. When a qualified educator accepts, you'll receive confirmation.

How quickly can I request coverage?

BackUP is designed for both planned and last-minute coverage. Whether you know about an absence weeks ahead of time or find out just hours before class, you can submit a request.

What happens if BackUP can't find a teacher?

If we don't successfully fill your request, you don't pay a BackUP coverage fee.

Who are the teachers in the BackUP network?

BackUP educators are experienced dance professionals who have completed our application, professional verification, and screening process before becoming eligible for teaching opportunities.

Can I request a specific dance style?

Yes. Coverage requests can include the styles, ages, and levels you need taught so BackUP can identify educators whose experience matches your classes.

Can I request a specific BackUP educator?

Yes. You can request a specific teacher if they are available.

Can BackUP help with extended absences?

Yes. BackUP isn't only for same-day callouts. Studios can request coverage for planned absences and longer periods when an educator will be unavailable.

For Teachers

Who can join the BackUP network?

BackUP is looking for experienced dance educators who can confidently step into a studio and teach.

You don't need to teach every style or age group. We're interested in educators from a variety of professional backgrounds and specialties.

Do I have to be available every week?

No. Set your availability based on your own schedule and update it whenever things change. You're never required to maintain a minimum number of hours.

Do I have to accept every opportunity I receive?

No. When an opportunity matches your availability and experience, you'll receive the assignment details. You decide whether you'd like to accept it.

Passing on an opportunity doesn't prevent you from receiving future opportunities

Can I choose how far I'm willing to travel?

Teachers will be able to set their preferred service area so BackUP can prioritize opportunities within a reasonable distance.

What styles is BackUP looking for?

Ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, acro, musical theater, creative dance, and more.

You don't have to teach every style to be a great fit for BackUP.

How will I know when teaching opportunities are available?

When a studio submits a request that matches your availability, location, and experience, you'll receive a notification with the opportunity details.

You can review the assignment and decide whether it works for you.

How do teachers get paid?
